Classic symbols of crescent moon accented by face with pointy nose witch in pointed hat riding a broom with her arched back black cat riding the bristles . In 2010 , we had the same design with the added apparent town name “ Findlay ” on lower right edge . On this example , that area is blank suggesting the button purchaser could customize the message . C . 1910 BUTTON W / SANTA IN AMERICAN FLAG HAT . 1.25 ” with back paper by Bastian c . 1910 with red printing which is black about 99 % of the time . However , this version is 1.5 ” and without text . The Bastian paper was first used in 1921 , the era of its issue , while the 1.25 ” versions are typically from the earlier decade . On this larger size , the 18 larger star dots ( and many smaller ) are much more apparent than on the smaller version . High gloss and NM . Only the third in our 58 years . Rare . L .” SANTA BUTTON C . 1920 WITH TEXT “ ASK FOR FREE AUTO TICKETS ”. 1.25 ” without maker , although six years ago we had one other with its curl naming Brown & Bigelow . I . X . L . was an ice cream brand made by a firm named Walker ’ s in Warren , Pa . Deep multicolor Santa flanked by holly on left and toy sack on right with message on his beard “ Ask For Free Auto Tickets ”. Glossy and Exc . Rare . ( I ) $ 200.00 478 . TWO SCARCE SANTA BUTTONS : ONE LIKELY A SAMPLE AND THE OTHER A NEW JERSEY STORE . Each 1.25 ”, neither with a maker ’ s name . The first without text and likely a sample is beautifully colored and features him with spectacles viewing his book of names . There is a single pinpoint faint gray dot ( seems as made ) at 3
477 o ’ clock and all else is NM . Second with jovial Santa reads “ Toyland At Muir ’ s / East Orange .”
On side edge , there is a thin . 25 ” line of missing cello plus a 1.25 ” line where more of the cello is under the collet than is normal . However , entire circle of cello lays tight and flat . Typically 1.25 ” however this is 1.5 ”, no maker ’ s name . Imprint is “ Meet Santa At Union ’ s Toyland ”. Great color and NM . Two known to us . Rare . ( H ) $ 200.00 480 . SANTA IN HIS SLEIGH ON EAGLE WHITE LEAD CO . CELLO ADVERTISING BLOTTER . Fabulous fantasy scene of Santa in his tree and gift laden sleigh flicking his whip above seven harnessed eagles pulling him through the night sky . An additional four eagles appear between the sleigh body and the runners . Primary text is “ Ahead And Above Them All The Eagle White Lead Co ., Cincinnati , O .” The top cello sheet is backed by three ink blotter sheets ( unused ) in pink , blue and cream all held together by a . 5 ” celluloid clip at far left with two brass tabs on the reverse . Tiny type names maker W & H with a 1905 patent date . Other details include snow covered buildings and sleigh side has small scene of worker in overalls with paint cans and stirrer with text “ After all / my boy / There ’ s no lead like ‘ Eagle ’”. The cello clip also includes company text and eagle logo . Top right corner missing a tiny 1 / 16 ” flake with all else Exc . Two known to us . A great Santa blotter and rare . ( I ) $ 200.00 481 . SANTA CLAUS C . 1930 ALUMINUM CLICKER GIVE-AWAY . 2-5 / 8 ” tall and thin aluminum just the slightest bit concave so when pressed it makes a distinct noise . Reverse scene of hands demonstrating “ The Noisy Snapper Jack ” while front shows Santa with pointing finger below text “ Santa Claus Headquarters The H . & S . Pogue Co . Toys For The Girls And Boys .” An unusual store give-away c . 1910 when aluminum objects were still quite a novelty . We ’ ve seen just one other and with a different advertiser . NM . Rare . URBAN MUSIC STORE CELLULOID AND VELVET RECORD CLEANER WITH SANTA AND TWO KIDS . 3.5 ” dia . celluloid top while underside is . 5 ” deep covered in purple velvet to serve as a 78rpm record cleaner . Curl has patent date of Oct . 21 , 1922 by Philadelphia Badge Co . The store was likely in Detroit as the street is given as “ 3030 Gratiot Av .” One tiny 1 / 16 ” dark line on background . Glossy and Exc . One of only two record cleaner Santa designs we know of and the only example we know of with this store name . Rare . ( I ) $ 200.00 483 . ST . LOUIS 1904 EXPO FIVE SCARCE OR RARE CELLULOID AND ENAMEL SOUVENIRS . The pocket knife case ( not counting the blades ) is 3 ” long with other four items to scale . First is Expo logo celluloid flag on brass stickpin . Extensive back text as a souvenir “ Compliments Of ‘ The New England ’ Minneapolis ”. Exc . Second flag is enamel on brass . Small enamel chip off very bottom corner . Back names Mass . maker Robbins Co . and has neatly hand scratched ( in the brass ) “ P . R ./ R . C ./ 2 25 04 Billing Mont .” Fine and rare . The Liberty Bell is a 1.75 ” pocket mirror with 100 % silvering . Exc . Scarce . Fourth is two-sided cello paperweight with aluminum rim . Shows “ Official Emblem ” ( it might be “ Official ” but it rarely appears compared to the typical fleur-de-lis symbol which here has been altered to form ( bottom to top ) eagle talons clutching globes , highly ornate curved wings encircling Jefferson and Bonaparte , and a very fierce eagle head which has yellow staring eyeball and ribbon in beak with the expo name . Reverse shows The Great Cascades from the Palace of Varied Industries . Small surface wear and small rim dents but Fine and Rare . Last is double sided cello knife with two bit worn but not chipped blades , one naming Corliss Cutlery . One side shows Liberal Arts Building and Exc . Other side tiny top edge stain . 5 ” long and right corner all dark stain . 5 ” wide . Both sides have full gloss and great color . Fine overall and rare . ( H )
