Makers Portland Ore .” Photo-like portraits of the explorers on photographic paper so there is no dot screen . GREEN DUCK NOVELTY CO . SALEMAN ’ S 1934 CHICAGO EXPO SOUVENIR JEWELRY 17 PIECES CARDED . This was the show card of a salesman for Chicago ’ s famous Green Duck Co . which specialized in litho tin buttons and metal advertising or souvenir novelties . The card is black velvet over cardboard with black thread anchoring each of the displayed pieces ( except threads are loose on three of five cuff bracelets ). Every item carries the enamel and metal official 1934 Chicago World ’ s Fair logo of a swirling comet with the words “ 1934 Chicago ”. There are four link bracelets each 7 ”, there are eight enamel pins . 75 ” to 2.5 ” ( one pin was removed long ago leaving . 5x1 ” hole in the velvet ), and five different cuff bracelets . The logos are executed in the enamel colors of pale blue , dark blue , red , black , white and green . The velvet is a bit dull with age / dust but certainly Fine and all the jewelry is NM as made . The smallest T & P item is the 13 / 16 ” tall brass pin while the largest is the blue cello bookmark at 4 ”. From photo top to bottom are : 1 ) brass pin , 2 ) Bakelite pin chained to metal pin , 3 ) enamel and silvered metal stud for labor group with initials “ A . A . OF S . E . R . & M . C . E . OF A .”, 4 ) shaded blue / cream bookmark , 5 ) “ Bakelite ” on a stickpin souvenir from The Hydraulic Press Co . 6 ) very art deco styled brass pin , 7 ) figural black “ Textolite ” plastic with “ GE ” logo on front , 8 ) miniature knife with pearlized grips , 9 ) tie-bar with glass dome over color T & P , 10 ) brass tie bar with suspended 1940 logo wings , 11 ) silvered tie bar with 1939 enamel logo . SIOUX CITY C . 1909 GRAPHIC AND RARE BUTTON FOR NEW AUDITORIUM . 1.25 ” w / Bastian Bros . on the curl . Indian with “ Auditorium ” feather accent against dot pattern of orange background and a light blue good luck swastika plus text “ A New Feather For Sioux City .” This graphic button celebrates the third of five civic buildings and opened in 1909 . Over the years it became known as The Old Municipal Auditorium . Reverse has dot sized collet dent , a barely seen 1 / 16 ” cello split along the collet , and front has a single 1 / 16 ” surface craze line on Indian ’ s hair seen only in reflected light . Technically VF but displays perfectly with high gloss . One known to us . Rare . ( J ) $ 300.00 490 . CALIFORNIA 1901 LOS ANGELES LA FIESTA DE LAS FLORES RARE BUTTON . 1.25 ” w / W & H back paper . Spring pin holds a pair of 1.5 ” ribbons in the city colors . Two medieval heralds , each with a dagger on hip , blow trumpets formed by yellow / green poppies , the state flower . Dated for May 8-9 , 1901 , to coincide with a visit by President McKinley . The yearly event was held 1894-1916 and was essentially an attempt to rival Pasadena ’ s Tournament of Roses which started in 1894 . NM . Rare . ( I ) $ 200.00

491 . “ LONG BEACH FESTIVAL OF THE SEA ” 1908 COLLECTOR ’ S FAVORITE . 2-1 / 8 ” in superb color with wonderful design dated for Sept . 1-5 , 1908 celebration in Long Beach , Calif . Primary text letters are formed by sea snakes with circular heads and facial accents . The scallop shell design encompasses a lovely mermaid fussing with her long hair as she floats in the harbor waters with sailboats in the background . Back paper by Bastian Bros . has a dozen light tan age dots each about 1 / 8 ”. The celluloid has high gloss with essentially perfect centering and only very minimal surface wear in reflected light . Exc . and scarce , one of the most stunning buttons ever issued . Over the past decade , undamaged examples such as this have consistently exceeded $ 1,000.00 . ( K ) $ 500.00 492 . CALIFORNIA ’ S ADMISSION TO THE UNION 60th ANNIVERSARY DAY COLORFUL AND RARE 1910 BUTTON . 1.25 ”. Back paper carries Rochester , NY union bug ( i . e . Bastian Bros ) but names button jobber “ Ann St . Badge & Novelty Co . “ in NYC . Reverse has tiny 1 / 8 ” hairline of cello that did not perfectly fold under the collet but lays flat . Superb color depicts lady with hat and floral bouquet sitting side-saddle on the back of a large grizzly bear , the official animal of California . Rim text names “ Admission Day ” and “ San Francisco 1910 ”. California joined the union as a free state Sept 9 , 1860 . Beautiful , Exc . and one known to us . Rare . ( K ) $ 500.00
