455 . COLT FIREARMS LOGO EARLY 1900s CELLULOID HINGED PLAYING CARD CASE . There is one well-known , but rarely seen , early 1900 advertising button with this “ Colt ” logo ( and it ’ s in color ). We last sold one ( of two known to us ) in our Sept . 2008 auction for $ 2,340 . On the button , the “ Colt ” logo is oval and below the horse ’ s front legs . We believe this card case , all ivory simulated celluloid ( except for two brass hinge rivets ) is earlier than the pin-back . We estimate this is c . 1900 . It measures 2-5 / 8x3.5 ” and 11 / 16 ” thick . There is a notch on the bottom tray edge and this allows easy access to swing up the lid revealing an open card compartment with a cello center strip to keep the cards in position until the deck is slid out the bottom open end . The only defect is the bottom two corners of the lid have a hairline vertical split , each about . 5 ” where the side skirts meet the front side panel . The “ Colt ” logo is incised into the cello surface with the coloring in black . There is no other text . VF . Rare . ( I ) $ 200.00 456 . WINCHESTER C . 1900 OVAL BUTTON PICTURING SHOTGUN , SHELL AND C . G . SPENCER . 1 ” oval with W & H paper in use 1900-1912 . Text is “ 97 . / 20 %/ C . G . Spencer / The Man The Gun And The Shell That Made It ”. The gun pictured is a Winchester Model 1897 pump-action combat shotgun . NM and scarce . ( I ) $ 200.00 457 . GRASSELLI EXPLOSIVES / MUNITION MANUFACTURERS EMPLOYEE 30 DAY WAR SERVICE AWARD BUTTON C . 1918 . 1 ” with lightly tanned W & H back paper . This chemical firm was founded in Cincinnati in 1839 to make sulfuric acid . However , it quickly relocated to Cleveland to supply the city ’ s growing number of refineries . Expansion to eastern locations followed and in WWI it entered the explosives field . 1928 brought consolidation with E . I . Du Pont . DUCKS UNLIMITED SECOND YEAR 1938 MEMBERSHIP BUTTON . 1.25 ” with Brunt , San Francisco back paper . Glossy and Exc . Scarce . ( I ) $ 200.00 459 . DUCKS UNLIMITED THIRD YEAR 1939 MEMBERSHIP BUTTON . 1.25 ”. Unlike 1938 ( see previous lot ) Brunt dropped the back paper insert and instead inscribed the curl with two union bugs and “ Brunt Press S . F .” Trivial rust spot on the collet . Cello is glossy and Exc . Scarce . ( I ) $ 200.00 460 . DUCKS UNLIMITED THREE SCARCE MEMBER BUTTONS FOR 1968-1970 . Each is 1.25 ”. First two curls have imprint of Western Badge , St . Paul while 1970 has union bug back stamp . 1968 and 1969 are both totally clean and glossy . The red “ 1968 Member ” is a bit light but we think as printed . Both are Exc . The 1970 has a small tan mark at 1-5-9:30 on the rim . Full gloss . VF . All three are scarce years . ( J ) $ 300.00 461 . POCKET MIRROR SHOWING “ THE WENONAH ( HOTEL ) BAY CITY , MICHIGAN . 2.75 ” oval w / faint W & H imprint on the curl . Gorgeous color shows expansive four-story hotel while in the foreground manicured lawns and band pavilion adjoin the blue waters of the Saginaw River being enjoyed by boaters . There is a no gloss vertical streak at far right , 3 / 16 ” wide by 1 ” tall , as made . This shows only in reflected light . Wonderful color , silvering near 100 % and one known to us . VF . Rare . TURTLE IRON PAPERWEIGHT W / CELLULOID SHELL FOR 1920s SAN FRANCISCO FISH RESTAURANT . 2.25 ” long 3D dark green cast iron turtle body with two brass tabs on the underside which hold his celluloid “ shell ” in place . His message “ The Place To Eat Fish / Bernsteins / Fish Grotto / 123 Powell St ./ 6 Sacramento St ./ San Francisco ”. Glossy and Exc . Our first from this establishment . NM . ( I ) $ 200.00 463 . “ JOHN DAVEY FATHER OF TREE SURGERY ” 1917 WATCH FOB . 1.75 ” tall with W & H imprint on reverse of a white metal watch fob with 15 / 16 ” real photo domed cello image . John Davey , a native of Somerset , England became a landscape architect opening his first landscape and greenhouse business in Warren , Ohio and then in 1880 founded The Davey Tree Expert Company in nearby Kent , where it is still located today with 7,000 nationwide employees . This fob was originally on a green ribbon badge given at a 1917 convention of tree surgeons in Kent . Tiny wear traces . VF . One known to us . ( I ) $ 200.00 464 . COCA-COLA 1901 SODA FOUNTAIN MENU ADVERTISING TRADE CARD . 4x6 ” trade card published by Wolf & Co . of Philadelphia , PA . © 1901 Coca-Cola Co . Card features ornate image of smiling woman holding glass of Coca-Cola w / her pinky finger extended , text at bottom right reading “ I Love Its Flavor .” Sheet of paper in front of woman bears name of “ The Coca-Cola Co .” w / mention of Atlanta , GA headquarters and branch locations . Back features menu for soda fountain , w / Coca-Cola listed many times among “ Fancy Mixed Drinks , Solid Drinks ” and “ Ice Cream Soda Water .” Crease to upper right corner w / some small scattered spots of staining and surface wear to front , not overly distracting .
