619 . 1925 EXHIBITS TY COBB ( HOF ) PSA 1 POOR . The 1925 series of Exhibits contains 128 unnumbered cards , each measuring 3-3 / 8x5-3 / 8 ”. The player ’ s name , position and team along with a line reading “ Made In U . S . A .” are printed in a small box in a lower corner of the card . The Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago was the issuer of these cards , which were sold in penny arcade vending machines of the era . Card backs were blank . Ty Cobb has held the # 1 spot in MLB history for nearly a century as the all-time career batting average leader with a . 366 mark and his all-time record of 4,191 base hits was not eclipsed until 1985 when Pete Rose surpassed his total on the way to a record 4,256 career base hits . Cobb was one of five inaugural members of the first National Baseball Hall of Fame class of 1936 . Front of card remains fairly clean and has sharp image . PSA census indicates that only 19 examples of this card have ever been graded by PSA . A key card in the set . ( K ) $ 500.00 620 . 1926 M101-7 SPORTING NEWS SUPPLEMENTS ( DECEMBER 30 , 1926 ) BABE RUTH ( HOF ) PSA 1 POOR . 7x10 ”. This set of 11 player photos along w / two team images was issued as a post-World Series weekly supplement by the Sporting News in 1926 . Player name and team are printed at bottom with “ Sporting News ” notation and date appearing in the upper left-hand corner . Team photos were done in a larger 10x14.25 ” format . By far , the biggest name from this series was none other than the Bambino himself , Babe Ruth , which is the supplement being offered here . The Babe began his career as a starting left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox in 1914 and spent the next six seasons there before joining the New York Yankees prior to the start of the 1920 season . The rest is history as Ruth would go on to set the all-time single season and career home run records , which both stood for decades . Moderate handling wear , area of staining at lower left but image remains strong and bold . PSA census indicates that only 11 examples of this supplement have ever been graded by PSA w / only four graded higher than the offered specimen . ( L ) $ 1,000.00 621 . 1948 SWELL SPORT THRILLS “ DRAMATIC DEBUT ” JACKIE ROBINSON ( HOF ) PSA 1 POOR . 2.5x3 ”. This set of bw cards was produced by the Swell Gum Co . of Philadelphia and portrays memorable events in baseball history . Each features a baseball theme border and event title on card front . Back of cards describe the event in detail . Jackie Robinson was not only an iconic figure in baseball history but also one of the most important people in America during the 20th century . Making his MLB debut on April 15 , 1947 , Jackie paved the way for African Americans to play baseball in the Major Leagues following prior segregation whereby black ballplayers were only allowed to compete against each other within the various incarnations of the Negro Leagues since the late 1800s . Robinson withstood tremendous adversity on his way to a stellar 10 year Major League career w / the Brooklyn Dodgers and culminating w / his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962 . Front has staining at top two corners and bottom center . Image not impacted and remains bold and distinct . Back of card is clean . A key card in the set . ( K ) $ 500.00 622 . 1887-93 BASEBALL CURRENCY - 1889 CHICAGO WHITE STOCKINGS WITH HOFERS CAP ANSON AND ALBERT SPALDING . Presented here is a noteworthy example from one of the 19th century ’ s most ornate as well as scarce baseball-related issues . Between 1887 and 1893 , an advertising medium was produced by an unknown printer whereby nine different baseball clubs of the era were showcased , each on their own 7.75x3-3 / 8 ” note , resembling then-circulating U . S . paper money . Fronts contain a large oval portrait of the club ’ s president or manager , while the right side pictures an unnamed player but clearly depicts the iconic 19th century full figure image of HOFer Adrian “ Cap ” Anson on all Chicago currency with other team currencies differing in their subject matter . At center on the front is a large ornate date along with “ National Base Ball League ”, leaving a large open space underneath for local merchants to print their store info . Back of note portrays bw woodcuts of the team ’ s ballplayers on a decorative background . This example depicts White Stockings team president , National Baseball Hall of Famer , Albert Spalding on front . Merchant texts denotes “ H . W . Twoes , Fashionable Tailor ” of NJ . Team shown on back includes : Cap Anson , Tom Burns , Bob Pettit , Ed Williamson , Dell Darling , Tom Daly , Silver Flint , Mark Baldwin , Marty Sullivan , George Van Haltren , Jimmy Ryan and Fred Pfeffer . The 1889 Chicago White Stockings finished in third place in the NL . Obvious wear w / creases , some staining paper loss on margins and corners , other wear and tear . Offered as “ Authentic ” but still very displayable as is . All in this series are fragile and rare as such . Advertising Colchester ( Connecticut ) Rubber and Cloth Tennis Shoes represented by Sage & Company , New England Agents . Sporting a rubberized cloth for flexible work shoes or sports , the scenes include rowing , bicyclist on a Penny Farthing , tennis players and a baseball player in uniform that reads “ CRC ” for Colchester Rubber Cloth . Very early reference to sports equipment , this company was famously bought by Keds in 1893 . Missing lower scroll w / archival tape repairs to lower right . Edge chip top and bottom right . VG . The 1907-09 American League champion Detroit Tigers are featured on this set of advertising buttons promoting Morton ’ s Pennant Winner Bread . Made by Whitehead & Hoag . The 1.25 ” buttons have black and white player photos surrounded by a yellow border . A Detroit banner with tiger head superimposed is at bottom . There are 15 in the set . Presented here is starting pitcher , George Mullin , who led the American League in victories and winning percentage in 1909 along with league leading totals for games started , complete games and innings pitched in 1905 during his time with Detroit from 1902-13 . Has back paper w / some age spotting . Small trace of surface wear , mostly only seen under magnification . Still glossy , VF .
