612 . 1910 PC805 NOVELTY CUTLERY POSTCARD WALTER JOHNSTON ( JOHNSON ) HOF PSA 1.5 FAIR . From same series as previous lot . Walter Johnson , nicknamed “ The Big Train ” for his blazing fastball , began his illustrious Hall of Fame career w / the Washington Senators in 1907 and would spend his entire 21 year MLB career w / the same ball club . Johnson would compile some astounding career numbers , finishing w / a record of 417-279 , a career ERA of 2.17 and a then all-time record of 3,509 strikeouts along with the still-standing MLB record of 110 career shutouts . Walter was part of the inaugural class of five which was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 . The lower grade is largely due to a 1 ” dia . spot on the back center with some staining and surface paper loss . However , back remains unused . Front has tiny trace of corner tip / margin wear but eye appeal greatly exceeds the PSA grade and with no significant defects seen to the naked eye . Front remains bright and clean with sharp image . Johnny Evers was part of the historic Chicago Cubs double play combo of Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance with all three being inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946 . Germany Schaefer ( misspelled Shaefer on the front of the postcard ) spent the best seasons of his 15 year MLB career w / the Detroit Tigers from 1905-09 , helping the Tigers to three consecutive AL pennants from 1907-09 . The lower grade is largely due to a 1 ” dia . spot on the back center with some staining and surface paper loss . However , back remains unused . Having begun his career before the turn of the century in 1896 , Nap Lajoie was one of baseball ’ s brightest stars of the 1900s-1910s . Lajoie compiled one of the top five all-around batting seasons of the 20th century during 1901 , winning the AL Triple Crown w / a . 426 batting average to go along w / league leading totals of 14 home runs and 125 RBI ’ s in addition to topping the AL in runs scored w / 145 and doubles with 48 . Nap would finish his MLB career with a . 338 batting average , accounting for three AL batting titles , and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939 . The lower grade is largely due to center area of the card back which has pair of . 5 ” spots of surface paper loss and pair of 1 ” tape strips . However , back remains unused . ( K ) $ 500.00 615 . 1910 PC805 NOVELTY CUTLERY POSTCARD HARRY LORD PSA 4.5 VG-EX + ( HIGHEST IN POP ). From same series as previous lots . Harry Lord made his MLB debut in 1907 for the Boston ( AL ) club where he would remain until midway through the 1910 season when he moved on to the Chicago White Sox for the remainder of his Major League career , finishing up w / one season in the short-lived Federal League in 1915 w / Buffalo . Primarily a third baseman throughout his career , Lord finished w / a respectable . 278 batting average over his nine big league seasons . The PSA 4.5 is a high grade for this tough series of postcards . Back is unused . PSA census report indicates that there have only been five examples of this card ever graded by PSA w / this beauty being the highest ever graded . Recently graded and fresh to the market . ( I ) $ 200.00 616 . 1910 PC805 NOVELTY CUTLERY POSTCARD ORVAL OVERALL PSA 2 GOOD . From same series as previous lots . Although Orval Overall ’ s Major League career was brief , only encompassing seven seasons from 1905-1910 and 1913 , Overall was one of the most dependable starting pitchers in the National League . Orval teamed w / Mordecai Brown to lead the Chicago Cubs to three straight NL pennants from 1906-08 . Back has 1 ” spot of staining at center but back remains unused . Front has trace of corner tip / margin wear but remains clean w / crisp and bold image . PSA census report indicates that there have only been two examples of this card ever graded by PSA . Recently graded and fresh to the market . ( J ) $ 300.00 617 . 1910-11 T3 TURKEY RED CABINETS CY YOUNG ( HOF ) CHECKLIST BACK PSA AUTHENTIC ALTERED . Turkey Red cabinet cards were obtained by mailing in coupons found in Turkey Red , Fez and Old Mill brand cigarettes . Cards measure 5.75x8 ” and feature full color lithograph fronts w / gray border and either checklist or Turkey Red advertising backs . This series consists of 100 baseball players and 25 boxers with the first 50 baseball players and 25 boxers produced in 1910 and the remaining baseball players issued in 1911 . Cy Young is widely regarded as one of the top five pitchers in MLB history and still holds the all-time records for his 511 wins , 815 games started , 749 complete games and 7,356 innings pitched . Each season since 1956 , the best pitcher in both the American and National Leagues is
presented with the Cy Young Award , in honor of the all-time great . This example is the checklist back version . A key card in the set . ( K ) $ 500.00 618 . 1914 E145 CRACKER JACK # 51 NAPOLEON RUCKER CGC 5 EX . One of the most popular baseball card sets of the era , the Cracker Jack cards were found in boxes of caramel popcorn snacks , thus accounting for most examples being found w / stains and in lower grade condition . These 2.25x3 ” treasures depicted players from the National , American and short-lived Federal League . This issue can be easily differentiated from the subsequent 1915 Cracker Jack series by the printing on card back , which was turned upside down for the 1915 baseball set . “ Nap ” Rucker was one of the top lefty pitchers of the dead ball era , spending his entire 10 year career w / the Brooklyn Superbas . This example has been assigned a high grade for the issue and has vibrant colors and nice centering . ( K ) $ 500.00
