MAKING WORKOUTS WORK There are many creative ways to squeeze workouts into busy lives. For Dr. Stephen Kotch, medical director of the Emergency Department at Meritus Medical Center, fitness is a family affair. Dr. Kotch and his wife, Karen, a registered nurse at Meritus Health, take Tae Kwon Do classes at White Tiger Martial Arts with their three children, all of whom earned black belts.“ This activity brings us closer together and helps us stay fit.” The Kotch family pursued Tae Kwon Do after the kids participated in a Karate Kids’ Fun Night.“ We take classes together and practice forms in our home workout area,” Dr. Kotch says.“ I also do Insanity, P90X ®, cardio-based plyometrics, and high intensity Tae Kwon Do kicks and forms. We try to do two days weekly at the center. My energy level, concentration, sleep and attitude are better.”
City of Hagerstown Communications Manager Erin Wolfe runs, exercise she’ s continued since school track days. She runs in Hagerstown parks during warmer weather, where she incorporates climbing playground equipment and using free weights. Erin takes studio cycle and kickboxing classes in colder months.“ I like running because I can do it on my own schedule.” Running also provides great professional benefits.
