Hagerstown has long been known as the Hub City because of its central location to multiple transportation routes, but it is quickly becoming a hub of cutting-edge medicine as well. Parkway Neuroscience and Spine Institute( PNSI) recently expanded its facility on Western Maryland Parkway, increasing the number of exam rooms, tripling the size of its physical therapy space, adding same-day services in the form of Neuro-Ortho Walk-in care and creating an education and conference center on site. Though PNSI also has offices in Chambersburg and Frederick,“ Hagerstown is our hub, with the most providers and the largest array of amenities within our multidisciplinary specialties,” says Chief Operating Officer Kara Vittetoe.

PNSI was founded approximately 16 years ago and quickly became a group of four neurosurgeons, as well as adding physiatry, rehabilitation and pain management. The partner doctors moved to their current location about six years ago, incorporating ambulatory surgery and physical therapy services. The continued swift growth of the practice prompted the need for further expansion, and the new Parkway Professional Center campus opened in July 2012. PNSI is staffed by board-certified specialists, including neurosurgeons, neurologists, pain management and rehabilitation specialists, physical therapists, and chiropractors.“ We started out as a neurosurgical facility, and just found that there are other modalities where we can assist patients other than put them in the operating room,” Kara says.“ We take care of everything brain and spine, but we take care of everything from stroke to spasm.” The center is also home to Parkway Radiology and the Center for Joint Surgery & Sports Medicine.
