ENT specialists at the Hagerstown Surgery Center, LLC, utilize the Fusion™ ENT Navigation System( above) during sinus surgical procedures. Fusion™ Navigation is an innovative, image-guided tool similar to a global positioning system( GPS) that provides physicians with the maximum amount of information about each patient’ s unique anatomy. It assists physicians during sinus surgery in removing diseased tissue and avoiding critical areas. The system is safe and offers reliable accuracy, allowing for more thorough sinus surgical procedures.
The Hagerstown Surgery Center, LLC, was awarded designation as a Sinus Surgery Center of Excellence, granted by Acclarent, Inc., in November of 2012, based on the training and experience of the ear, nose and throat( ENT) specialists and staff as well as positive patient outcome data. The center’ s sinus program provides innovative treatment options and care to patients suffering from chronic sinus disorders.
Sinusitis is one of the most common chronic healthcare problems in the United States, even more prevalent than heart disease and asthma. It is an inflammation of the sinus lining and comes in two forms: acute and chronic. Sinusitis afflicts more than 37 million people each year and has a greater impact on the quality of life than chronic back pain or congestive heart failure, affecting people physically, functionally and emotionally. The pain associated with chronic sinusitis can be overwhelming, and the symptoms are sometimes difficult to control with medication, which leads to surgical procedures.
ENT specialists at the Hagerstown Surgery Center can provide a minimally invasive treatment option for chronic sinusitis sufferers. Balloon sinuplasty technology is an FDA-approved procedure in which a small, flexible sinus balloon catheter is used
to safely and gently open up blocked sinus passageways to restore normal sinus drainage. This innovative treatment offers several important benefits to patients. It is safe and effective with reduced bleeding and a fast recovery time, unlike more invasive treatments that involve cutting, stitching, packing and intense swelling. Patients can often return to normal daily activities in 24 hours.“ It brings us great pleasure here at Hagerstown Surgery Center to provide such a unique advancement in sinus surgery to Washington County,” says Nurse Administrator Jennifer Barley-Deibler.
