5) Feedback on
Assessment
Lecturers should provide concise feedback within twenty
working days which provides guidance for students to
improve in future work.
What Students Want...
Students should receive detailed and constructive feedback, identifying the
strengths and weaknesses of a given piece of work. Feedback should be given in a
written form with the opportunity to have one-to-one tutorials to discuss it in more
detail. The feedback should be given within the regulated twenty working days,
to enable reflection before commencing future work. Assessment deadline dates
should be set out well in advance.
What are the benefits...
Detailed and constructive feedback, will allow students to identify positive and
negative aspects of their work and see a clear strategy to improve future work.
Identifying positive key points of the work inspire students to make changes in
future work. If feedback is given before the next assessment, it allows continuing
improvement and prevents the same mistakes occurring again.
Student View
“Pippa has gone above and beyond in making herself
available, and her feedback is constructive inspiring and
understandable. She has inspired me to be the best
that I can be in my career in education and I have been
able to turn theory into practice simply by her bringing
theories to life in the classroom.” – Pippa Watkins – FESS
