6) Flexibility in Learning Students should access learning materials and be given support in terms of location, commitments, learning and teaching methods. What Students Want... Students should be given the opportunity to receive learning in a wide range of locations, technologies and times, through a range of methods. Students should have access to technology, which allows them to recap or catch up on material to assist in the planning of their own learning. Students should have the opportunity to be flexible in their learning in terms of mode, pace and place. What are the benefits... Flexible learning will greatly assist in student retention. Students who have had to take on extra outside commitments will still be able to complete their studies despite these issues. Those who have to leave for a short term due to illness or bereavement will be able to catch up with anything they’ve missed. Technology will enable the opportunity for students to revisit areas of their studies which need clarification or refinement. Student View “He works tirelessly for us all and was extremely supportive when I had to go into the hospital at the end of last term with rearranging tests and ensuring I was on track with my studies.” – Dr Tim Johnson – Sciences – HESAS – Glamorgan SLTAs 2012.
