eyes glazed. With cutting edge motion-capture FX,
brilliant writing and even more brilliant acting, the
line between summer blockbuster and awards season
is certainly becoming blurry. This is one series that I
didn’t expect to become so attached to.
On July 28th, Charlize Theron-starring “Atomic
Blonde” might prove a more direct tap of the adrenal
glands. Stuntman-turned director David Leitch helms
this spy-action pic, which I’m giddily anticipating will
have a lot of “John Wick” flavor.
We can’t expound upon them all (sorry, “Spider-Man”),
but if a project has Christopher Nolan attached, you
must allocate some words for it. In this case, “The
Dark Knight” director has made a WWII movie star-
ring two of his career mainstays, Tom Hardy and
Cillian Murphy. Detaching himself from the multi-
faceted /dimentional obscurity of films like “Interstal-
lar” and “Inception” (the former being far superior to
the latter), “Dunkirk” (July 21st) looks like it could be
Nolan’s “Saving Private Ryan”. With the Brit auteur’s
arrhythmic style (mainly due to editor Lee Smith, a
frequent collaborator) and proclivity for shooting in
65mm IMAX, this promises to be one of the most im-
mersive, if not nerve rattling, movies of the year.
King’s epic “Dark Tower” saga (August 4th), which fi-
nally gets the big screen treatment. It would be a mas-
sive understatement to say that this flick, directed by
Nikolaj Arcel and starring Idris Elba and Matthew
McConaughey, has been much anticipated.
Finally, we push briefly into August, where I have three
films on my mind. “Detroit” (August 4th), the return of ( Visit DCFilmdom.com for reviews of “Guardians of the
writer/director Kathryn Bigelow (“Zero Dark Thirty”), Galaxy, Vol. 2, “Alien: Covenant”, “The Mummy”, and
recounts violence during the Civil Rights era in the “Captain Underpants”).
titular city. “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” (August 18th)
pairs Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds (really, Contact Michael at 301-706-9270
need I say more?). And most noteworthy is Stephen or at MichaelParsonsHomes.com
