Parkwood Elementary School ( PES ) houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade and has an enrollment of approximately 575 students . The mission of PES is to work together to ensure academic success for all students . The vision at PES is that it will be a place where students are excited to come , all students are challenged , students and staff learn from their mistakes , and students are not afraid to try new things . The staff is positive in their interactions and students know what their strengths are , and the teachers build on those strengths . Parents are involved in classrooms that are warm and inviting . The various learning styles of students are recognized and valued , and students are engaged in a variety of learning experiences . Both students and teachers use technology on a daily basis . Parent survey data indicates that 94 percent of our parents believe that their child is getting a quality education at Parkwood Elementary School .
PES is a Title I school . Title I schools receive additional funds that are used to provide additional services for students in reading and mathematics . All teachers and paraeducators in Title I schools are highly qualified and participate in ongoing professional development . Parkwood was a recipient of the Early Literacy Grant for the five consecutive years and all teachers have received extensive professional development related to the teaching of reading . Parkwood was a Reading First School for 6 years . Through Reading First teachers received comprehensive professional development and training in the five components of reading . For the past three years , teachers have engaged in extensive professional development with a focus on Guided Reading and delivery of core reading instruction . Teachers in grades kindergarten through five have participated in professional development in Balanced Math , writing and Social Emotional Learning . In addition to the prescribed curriculum , many enrichment programs are offered . The Parent Teacher Organization sponsors enrichment clubs related to a variety of topics in an afterschool program . There are also several teacher and staff sponsored clubs that meet after school during the course of the year ( robotics club , archery club , Student Ambassadors , newspaper club , STEM club , academic team , computer club , student council , and nature club ). Students also participate in GCCS academic competition .

• Earned Level 3 rating through Paths to QUALITY for the past two years .
• Received a grant from Duke Energy to offer a Summer Math and Science Camp in partnership with Jacobi , Toombs & Lanz , and Maker 13 - Summer 2021 .
• Awarded the Community Partnership from Indiana Campus Compact - Winter 2020
• Awarded the Community Partnership from Indiana University Southeast - Spring 2020
• Benefit from a strong partnership with the Town of Clarksville that provides multiple learning opportunities through engaging the parks , police , and fire departments , and also provides a School Resource Officer for safety .
• Our students logged 1,000,000 minutes of independent reading time outside of the school day during the 2018-2019 school year to successfully complete our Million Minute Challenge
• Received grants totaling $ 34,000 from Duke Energy to offer Summer Reading Remediation programs during the summers of 2018 and 2019
• Established Student Ambassadors with students in grades 3 through 5 being trained , and having the opportunity to serve and represent our school community in 2019
• Nominated for the Community Partnership award at Indiana University Southeast ( 2019 )
• Partners with IUS to provide Summer Academy , offer ELL Parent Nights , and support future teachers
• Became a Data Wise Model School with support from Harvard University to improve the effectiveness of our school ( 2017-2019 )
• Began implementing Trauma-Informed practices schoolwide to support Social- Emotional Learning in 2018
• Facilitate collaborative , problem solving teams for Tier II academic and behavior support
