Former Arthur Robinson and McMeckan House boarder GEOFF HENDERSON(‘ 45) retired from farming fat lambs and potatoes at St Leonards 12 years ago, having sold off the farm in parcels of various sizes. He and his wife Helen moved to Point Lonsdale in 2005. They had two sons, Timothy( born in 1955), and Andrew( born in 1957, sadly now deceased). With the encouragement of GEOFF BOWDEN(‘ 45) and BRUCE SYMON(’ 45), and with considerable help from former OSCA Executive Director, LEIGH MCGREGOR(’ 56), Geoff and Helen launched the OSCA Bellarine branch in about 1990, and he and Helen regularly attend Bellarine branch functions at Queenscliff, and thoroughly enjoy them. One of the Old Boys he sees from time to time is RICK AITCHISON(‘ 58). Geoff still plays golf, but says his form has‘ gone downhill’ over the years.
GEORGE DEVRIES KLEIN(’ 46), former Professor Emeritus of Geology at the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign, retired to the western Pacific island of Guam nearly three years ago and celebrated his 84th birthday in January.
‘ Expecting to sit on the beach or snorkel in several lagoons while watching the sea turtles, parrot fish and conches whiz by,’ George wrote,‘ I was persuaded by a local geologist to continue to pursue more research’. During the past 15 months George has published two peer-reviewed papers, one on the anthropocene( the epoch dating from the commencement of significant human impact on the Earth’ s geology and ecosystems) and one on tropical climate change( see http:// episodes. org / index. php / epi / article / view / 79720 / 61837 and http:// www. searchanddiscovery. com / pdfz / documents / 2016 / 70217klein / ndx _ klein. pdf. html).‘ Once a geologist, always a geologist,’ George commented.
LEIGH HARTKOPF(’ 53) lives in the ginger capital of Buderim in Queensland. Leigh was an excellent sportsman at Scotch – a member of the 1st XI and the premiership-winning 1st XVIII in 1953. That was the year when Scotch found themselves six goals down against Melbourne Grammar at half-time, but kicked eight goals to nil in the second half for a come-from-behind 12-point victory, Leigh Hartkopf’ s fine ruck work contributing in no small measure to the final result. BEN COBHAM(’ 53), who was Captain of Football in 1953, now lives on the Bellarine peninsula, as does GRAHAM WILLEY(’ 52).
