ALASTAIR MCLEISH(‘ 77), has twin 14-year-old boys, Blake and Tate, in Year 9 at Scotch. He works in the stockbroking industry, specialising in the biotechnology, debt markets / fixed income sectors and select corporate matters. In more recent years he has been involved in‘ new-wave’ innovation / disruptive ideas in nature, to a variety of industries. His stock market / economic background has been useful for lateral thinking. Alastair enjoys cooking, gardening, and events management at a friend’ s vineyard, and highly values his family time.

1980s

Artist PHILIP WISCHER(‘ 84) has presented Scotch with a portrait of former staff member Don Macmillan, which, appropriately, will find a home up on the Hill in School House. A successful teacher and an excellent boarding house master, Don served in all three boarding houses at various times. Philip Wischer lives and works in Yea and travels regularly to South Gippsland, which is a place of great significance to his family and artistic practice. His recent work was on display in a solo exhibition at the Kinross Arts Centre, Toorak, in July.

1990s

After leaving school CAMERON HENRY(‘ 94) gained a Diploma of Illustrative Photography at Photography Studies College in Melbourne, achieving a‘ top of the state’ award for Victoria in digital photography. He then completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in media arts at RMIT University in 1999.
After that Cameron became a Reiki master in the Usui system of natural healing, and established the Keys of Light Healing Centre in Hawthorn, in which he became professionally known as Zoriaan Cameron.
ANDREW MCDONALD(’ 97) and his wife Kate have welcomed a son, Lucas Tom McDonald, born on 21 July 2017. Getting their priorities right, Lucas’ grandfather DONALD MCDONALD(’ 61) and grandmother Cheryl booked young Lucas in at Scotch on the day he was born, shortly after nominating him for the Melbourne Cricket Club.

2000s

Indy car driver JAMES DAVISON(’ 04) did a superb job racing in the 2017 Indianapolis 500, substituting for injured fellow driver Sebastien Bourdais, before unluckily crashing with 17 laps remaining while he was running in the top five. James led two laps, and looked set to achieve his
goal of a top 10 finish before tangling with two other cars on the 184th lap of 200. He was ultimately placed 20th in the race.
‘ It was up and down,’ James said.‘ I had to learn some things due to the limited practice I got but I led the Indianapolis 500 from starting last … If we could have got track position at the right time, we were in a position to win it. I’ m disappointed to have it end, but that’ s the Indy 500. You’ ve got to go for it if you want to win it, because it’ s not going to come to you.’
At school, James coxed the 2nd VIII in 2003, which was undefeated during the entire season.
Singer / songwriter and actor ALISTAIR TRAPNELL(‘ 11) studied music theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2012, and in 2013 he attended the Point Blank Music School in London. Last year Alistair completed a BA at Monash University, majoring in theatre and creative writing. He was awarded the prize for the top third-year student in literary studies and creative writing.
Alistair was recently nominated as best supporting actor in the Dandenong Ranges One Act Play Festival; he regular appears as an extra in House Husbands and Neighbours, and is about to audition for an ensemble role in the musical Aladdin. Alistair’ s website is www. alistairtrapnell. com.
Now in his final year of Law and International Relations at the
Australian National University in Canberra, ALEX COX(‘ 12) recently returned to Australia after seven months on exchange at King’ s College, London, after that taking a backpacking holiday through Europe and Northern Africa. He is spending the rest of the year finishing off his degree and saying goodbye to Canberra before moving to Sydney in November. Next year he will work as a tipstaff for a judge at the NSW Supreme Court, and during the year after that he will start as a graduate lawyer in a commercial law firm. PERRIN RICHARDSON(‘ 14) competed in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria in March, and was placed fifth in the giant slalom. Following the games, Perrin and other Australian team members attended a reception at Admiralty House in Sydney, hosted by the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove. During the Olympics, Perrin received many messages of support from Scotch staff and Old Boys of the Class of 2014.
Midfielder WILL BRODIE(‘ 16) made his AFL debut for the Gold Coast Suns against Melbourne at Traeger Park in Alice Springs on 27 May. At the time of writing, Will, who the Suns picked up at number nine in the 2016 AFL national draft, had played one further senior game for the Suns, against the West Coast Eagles. He is the 173rd known Old Scotch Collegian to play VFL / AFL football.
