Back to school for
Old Scotch Football
Club
Players from five Old Scotch Football Club teams
returned to their old alumnus on 24 June to play for
the cardinal, gold and blue in round 10 of the Victorian
Amateur Football Association competition.
Stepping out on the hallowed turf of Scotch’s Main
and Meares Ovals was a prospect to send tingles
down the spine of any Old Scotch Collegian, and the
players responded accordingly, with all five teams
winning. The seniors defeated Old Carey 12.16.88
to 12.4.76, the reserves beat Old Carey 19.22.136 to
6.4.40, the thirds easily accounted for Fitzroy, 21.14.140
to 3.2.20, the under 19 premier team overcame
Caulfield Grammarians 11.12.78 to 7.10.52, and the
under 19 premier reserve side had a crushing victory
over St Kevin’s Old Boys, 28.20.188 to 1.4.10.
It was great to see so many current Year 11 and
12 boys representing Old Scotch for the first time on
this special day. The nostalgia was immense – the
perfectly cut grass nurtured by Curator Michael Smith
and his staff, getting back into the old change rooms,
and experiencing that glorious feeling of belting out the
team song after a great win with your mates made it a
day to remember.
