On trial – the Big Bad Wolf
The Year 7/8 play of 2017, The Trial of the
Big Bad Wolf, told the story of the events which
occurred after the fairy tale The Three Little Pigs.
Inside a courtroom, the pigs attempted to sue the
wolf, while many other famous fairy tale characters
acted as the jury!
A cleverly written script, coupled with fantastic
direction from Ms Amy Christensen, resulted
in an incredible performance. Charles Heyburn
(Jack Sprat) had the audience in stitches as he
posed as the pigs’ mother, while the likes of Tom
Worstelling (Judge Wise), Ethan Allan (the Wolf),
Connor Mason-Jones (Bartholomew Pig), Charlie
Lines-Perrier (Marcellus Pig), JJ Douglas (Amadeus
Pig), Dom Scott (Clerk 1) and Ed Burns (Clerk 2)
created the perfect court-room atmosphere.
The media and jury gave the production
another edge that is it often missing in plays, but
that edge was most certainly not missing from
The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf. Many people gave
up their time to make this a legendary production.
Year 12 boys Con Coutis, Charlie Hill and Fletcher
Paterson gave hours every Friday night helping
the boys perfect each scene, every line, and
encouraged them to put their own spin on the
characters. Meanwhile, backstage many boys
were learning to fly in houses, play sound effects at
the exact moment for a laugh, or to simply set the
scene, and make sure everyone was doing their
job properly and effectively.
Year 11 and 12 boys William Cester, Maxim
Chirmuley, Simon Digby, Jonah Roseby and
Darcy Wischer helped the backstage boys. Other
teachers such as Ms Sharp and Ms Hopkins took
charge of costume design and assistant director
positions, respectively. Mr Lane and the backstage
crew created an impeccable set that produced
the desired atmosphere. The efforts of all involved
enabled the play to exceed expectations and have
audiences on the edge of their seats.
