THOUGHTFUL REGENERATION
In the previous edition of this magazine I wrote about progress in our strategic planning process which has been unfolding over the last two years . The last couple of years may well be categorised as a transition period in which our 10th Principal has been identified , appointed and now empowered to deliver the strategy that has been Council ’ s focus .
As the strategic review unfolds it is inevitable that from a people perspective , both structurally and individually , the environment in which we operate must evolve to meet new demands and allow new thinking to take hold . Scotch is not immune from the need to regenerate itself as our world continues to change at an ever-increasing rate .
One very clear example of thoughtful regeneration was announced to the Scotch Family during the course of 2023 . In June this year we said farewell to our Vice Principal , Rob McLaren , following more than 35 years of service . As you will remember , Rob played a key part in our transition plan as he took up the role of Acting Principal in the second half of 2022 . Since
Rob ’ s retirement , and in anticipation of the adaptation required to meet the demands of our new strategy , Principal Dr Scott Marsh has announced a new structural approach to the Vice Principal role .
Scotch will go forward in 2024 with three leaders at the Vice Principal level , recognising the scope of the challenges to be undertaken and also invigorating our school through the introduction of new skills and thinking . Katrina Brennan will take up the role of Vice Principal – Head of Senior School , and joins Tom Savill , Vice Principal – Head of Junior School and Kristy Irwin , Vice Principal – Teaching and Learning . This is a fine example of thoughtful regeneration following a period of transition .
While the school will continue to announce further changes in people and structure as the strategic plan is unveiled early next year , I wanted to let you know that the School Council will also regenerate from the beginning of November 2023 . Three members of Council with more than 45 years of combined service will step down , with great confidence that a new and
