EAST MELBOURNE GLEN CHAPTER

Christmas Luncheon Friday 16 December 2022

More than 170 members of the East Melbourne Glen Chapter and guests filled the Boarders ’ Dining Room on the sunny afternoon of 16 December for the EMG Christmas Luncheon . It was an occasion for Christmas cheer and warm friendship , and also a reason to celebrate the resumption of this event , after COVID-19 caused it to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021 .

EMG Chairman Ken Jasper (’ 55 ) cordially welcomed attendees , acknowledging some of the members who had travelled from afar to attend the lunch , including Will Mactier (’ 53 ) from Tatura , and Ian Nesbitt (’ 66 ), from Wagga Wagga , NSW .

OSCA Chaplain Rev Graham Bradbeer said grace .

Acting School Principal , Rob McLaren (’ 73 ), as guest speaker , mentioned some of the highlights of the year , including academic and sports achievements ; and he thanked EMG members for their support of the school .

School Council Chairman , Alex Sloan (’ 71 ) paid tribute to Rob McLaren , describing Rob ’ s period as Acting School Principal as ‘ both an act of love and a heavy burden ’, and also praising the Acting Vice Principal , Tim Byrnes , for his stalwart support .

The school has been in good hands , Alex said , well managed by two men with ‘ cool heads ’. He said VCE results had been excellent , with 194 boys ( 74.6 per cent of the cohort ) obtaining an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank ( ATAR ) of 80 or more , placing them in the top 20 per cent in the population .

Foundation Coordinator , Rebecca Mortimer and Bequest Program Manager , Sandra Dick were the hard-working organisers of this highly enjoyable EMG event .
