Train to be a Teacher
A new part time programme which allows eligible
Council employees to study for a PGDE Primary
qualification has been developed.
The University of Dundee, in partnership with
participating Local Authorities across Scotland,
has developed a part time programme giving
a new route into teaching while remaining in
employment.
The programme is identical in content to the full
time PGDE route, but is offered on a part time
basis over 18 months, starting in January 2018.
Across Scotland there are three Cluster Hubs;
one in Irvine, one in Stirling and one in Dundee.
Students will attend workshops in their
Cluster Hub in addition to participating in two
introduction days, and two summer school
weeks in Dundee.
See CONNECT for more details.
Integrated Mental Health Service
retains CSE
The Integrated Mental Health Service has again been
successful in retaining CSE accreditation, which the team
has held since 2010.
As part of an annual rolling programme, 19 elements of the
CSE criterion were reviewed in September. This year’s review
went extremely well, and as well as already having ‘compliance
plus’ for 7 of the elements, the service has been awarded
‘compliance plus’ for another 5 elements. Compliance plus
is awarded where the assessor feels there is something that
stands out, promotes good practice and could be used by
other services.
The inspection was extremely thorough and included
meeting with staff in all parts of the service and a broad range
of customers.
The Assessment Report states: “A substantial amount of
new evidence has been presented, with the standard of
presentation being first class. The delivery of customer service
remains extremely impressive and a number of areas are

worthy of specific praise. They include an outstanding approach
to customer engagement, encouraged and supported by a
very strong leadership team. Staff should be commended
for extraordinary commitment and the pride displayed in
their efforts is well deserved. The provision of information
and accessibility is outstanding. Service is delivered with
commitment, responsibility and joy.”
The Integrated Mental Health Service sits within the Health and
Social Care Partnership. Around 35 staff with a range of skills
and professions work within the service providing support to
individuals with mental health problems.
In order to achieve the award, the service had to produce
documentary evidence that they had in-depth knowledge of
their customers, a culture of public service, excellent standards
of public information and access, and high standards of service
delivery and customer care. Congratulations go to all staff
within the service, as well as partners and se
