Barbados’ very own US Navel Facility was opened at Harrison’ s Point St. Lucy. It operated for twenty-two years and was officially decommissioned in March 1979.
1964
Television was introduced to Barbados, just 49 years ago.
1966
Barbados gained its independence on November 30th, 1966. The Pointer Sisters sang at the celebratory event which was held.
1977
British Concorde Airways G-BOAE( 212) first arrived in Barbados to take Her Majesty the Queen to England. It operated for 26 years before finally settling at the Concorde Experience museum in Barbados.

Barbadian born, internationally acclaimed, Grammy award winning, superstar Rihanna was discovered by producer Evan Rogers.
Her Majesty’ s Prison Glendairy was destroyed by prisoners in a prison uprising. Military forces were brought in from other Caribbean islands for assistance. The replacement, HMP Dodds, was opened in 2007.
Historic Bridgetown and its’ Garrison was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
