The‘ first’ settlers arrived in Barbados. They settled in Jamestown, which is now known as Holetown.

80 % of the capital city burnt to the ground as a result of an explosion at“ The Bridgetown Magazine”. As a result 800 homes were destroyed in“ the great fire of Bridgetown”.
George Washington visited and resided on the island for two months, making this his only journey and his only residence outside America. The home in which he resided has since been renamed George Washington House.

Barbados is the first British West Indian territory to introduce electricity.
