Inside the Deep Web

Down the Rabbit Hole

The general internet is like an iceberg. Citizens have only access to only 4% of the internet, so they only see tip of the ice berg. The other 96%, or deep web, can only be accessed through secure networks and browsers like TOR, the midsection on the iceberg. The bottom is something of a myth. This area is known as the dark web. The two areas deep and dark are two whole different things. Deep IS is accessible and real. But the dark web, on the other hand, is something of myth and legend among many users of the deep web. Many things are said about the dark web. Its accessibility is beyond even the most intelligent of computer experts. It’s also said that the dark web holds many secrets, such as classified government documents and much worse.

The internet; we use it every day. Without it, people would go crazy and businesses could even go bankrupt. It has many uses, such as contacting loved ones, watching your favorite tv show, or even buying illegal weapons or drugs. Wait... That can’t be right, right? Well, it is. Normal citizens have access to only 4% of the internet. The other 96% is encrypted in special software or secret browsers.

Common sites/ Background

Many lucrative business operate on platforms such as DuckDuckGo (where google can’t go), and onion directories such as TOR. When thinking of the deep web, think of an onion. It has many layers, and those many layers offer protection from internet surveillance. Many people use platforms like TOR on a regular basis to protect themselves from hacking or other threats lurking I the web. What’s the damage you may ask? Many people globally and domestically have been directly affected. Even I, myself, have been personally affected. Drugs, people, and guns are trafficked on a daily basis.
