after 4pm so we didn ' t want the fight to flip back and forth between afternoon and evening."
Some shots, especially when Rachel is pulling on the chain, were super decomposed and extremely blurred.
" That footage was actually crisper which presented a problem. Angel was supposed to be on the other side of the chain but we had the actress take a break. Everyone was told to drink water and no one listened so we needed too many breaks since soda dehydrated them a lot. So, no one was on the other end of the chain- Lexi was pulling a loose chain that she had to make you believe was strangling someone to death. I purposely zoomed in into the woods, so we ' re seeing some blurry images of the forest overlaid with Rachel ' s grunts and Angel ' s gasps for breath she is being killed."
At the beginning of Moonlight ' s fight against Angel, the shadows extremely hide away her face.
" Again, we ' re trying to mix commercial aspect with an underground look and feel, come to a happy medium. Some of it was poorly edited. I wasn ' t aware that snuff films had production values and that camera operators say " Hold on, don ' t die yet, I have to change the angle." But hey our critics think they know what they ' re talking about. And they didn ' t. And this DVD set proves that. We mostly used cutaways anyway, I did leave out a transitional action and instead used a dissolve to explain some time had passed during Moonlight ' s slaughter of Jacki. So except for the few times a cutaway wasn ' t used, I never knew a cutaway was considered poor editing [ sarcasm intended ]."
Some of the fights didn ' t use the best angles. " Again, think snuff film. I didn ' t want people to ask, " How the hell did they film this so well yet it really happened. Instead I wanted people to believe it really did happen. Now you ' ll watch the behind the scenes footage and ask, " Why didn ' t he use that angle?" And it ' s because it would look more as a polished film than we were intending."
Sex Appeal Came with the Girls of GIRLFIGHT
The first screenplay, GIRLFIGHT, featuring Chella Bella on the cover. This was the intended vision of how the girls in GIRLFIGHT were to look until the Producer accepted each girls ' own translation. It is available for sale on Amazon and soon as a DVD.
“ GIRLFIGHT wasn’ t originally intended to have the sex appeal it did. All the girls were told to wear fitness clothes, that could include sports bras and even tank tops. The definition of fitness clothes seems to vary per person.
I’ ve went to gyms where fitness clothes meant a t-shirt and jogging pants. Then I’ ve went to gyms where girls were side-less tank tops where I felt it was too revealing. And then there are the gyms where you’ ll see either Rachel or Selena’ s attire, and given we had people from so many different backgrounds, from metro to urban and rural, and given my own experiences. Hell I’ ve been to beaches where the bikinis were more revealing than Moonlight’ s attire … anything was fair game.”
My vision was captured the best by Jade and Selena’ s fight scene, sold as Part III: Jade’ s Fight in the GIRLFIGHT: Behind the Scenes series. Then the second fight, Rachel against Angel when she was originally playing Cherry, Lexi interpreted that to include a bit more revealing than I had intended. Until then, all the girls had to go by was the published screenplay GIRLFIGHT which featured Ohio Model Chella Bella in a sports bra and running pants on the cover. So I sacrificed some good shots so the fans could see how muscular and fit her thighs were as she began to kill Angel. I wasn’ t sexualizing Rachel, I was emphasizing her strength and Lexi’ s choice in shorts allowed me to do this. You can see all of that in Part II: Rachel’ s Fight in the GIRLFIGHT: Behind the Scenes series.”
