Family Day Allows Input into Parole Cases

The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles once again participated in the Georgia Department of Corrections' Family Day in Forsyth in July. Georgia Parole Board Hearing Examiners met with offender family members to discuss cases, provide parole status updates, and answer questions about the parole process.

"Every piece of information we receive about an offender helps the Board make informed decisions," said Chris Barnett, Executive Director of the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles.

"Family support, personal insight, and the information loved ones share provide valuable context that can play an important role in the parole decision-making process," said Barnett.

Hearing Examiners met with more than three-hundred family members representing two-hundred-fifty-five offender cases.

Barnett says the statewide tour reflects the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles' ongoing commitment to informed clemency decision-making, effective offender rehabilitation, and collaborative public safety efforts that benefit all Georgians.

"We want offenders to understand that positive change matters. When individuals take meaningful steps toward rehabilitation and personal growth, those efforts receive thoughtful and meaningful consideration as parole decisions are made," says Barnett.
