Activities
The teacher attracts the attention of the students by bringing an origami frog, crane
bird and squirrel to the classroom. Asks the students what the relationship between
origami and mathematics, science and engineering can be. After receiving the answers
of the students, the teacher shares the information under the title "Profession of the
Future: Origami Engineering" with the class at

The teacher makes the students watch the spinning tops made in origami in the video
https://youtu.be/NTdgmBz1yoc. The teacher forms groups of 5 students. It distributes
3 different colors of square shaped papers to each group. Each group asks to make
their own spinning tops by watching the video. Students are asked to answer the
following questions while making these spinning tops.

* What properties and basic elements of polygons did you use when folding paper?
* What kind of angle did you get when folding the papers?
* What are the factors that affect the spinning speed when you make your spinning
top?
* What changes do you make your spinning top to affect the spinning speed of the
spinning top?

Each group presents his spinning top to classmates. They share the answers of 4
questions asked by their teachers in their presentations with their friends. The
expected response from students are:
