members , but many clubs will still run under projected hours . Call outs are inevitable . And besides , you can always scale back if you are running high . It is better to be prepared by overscheduling than to be short-handed .
There should also be a designated HR generalist assigned to investigating potential exposures . The contact tracer needs to be able to conduct investigations immediately and send home employees who may have been exposed to reduce impact to the club – and they need to be sure to communicate the situation to the appropriate operations team member so that coverage can be arranged .
Mental Health and Your Employees It is important not to forget the mental health component of well-being by taking care of team members . This is another reason why it is a good idea to have plenty of labor hours scheduled ; it can help with stress when people need to call out and keep people from getting burned out from filling in for COVID callouts . It should be made clear to employees that their well-being is the priority and that
they can speak up if they need a break or a day off . Creating an employee assistance program to give team members access to medical professionals who can help with mental health is another idea .
There should be morale checks with leaders and team members – using a Culture Pulse Check can be very helpful in identifying where problems exist and how they can be alleviated . Retraining on the Reopening Playbook to give a refresher on the basics can also be helpful so the team can feel more prepared .
Staff can also be placed into “ stations ” for the busy times in January – for example , two or three at the front desk , two or three doing tours , one team member monitoring the gym floor , and one person acting as a greeter and crowd manager . Employees can then be rotated through these stations to help them avoid fatigue . It can also be very rejuvenating for employees to have some extra time off , so consider whether there are ways to make that happen .
Also , be sure to enforce safety protocols around social distancing . It is important to have a safe environment in
which your team will work . Remind your team that you value them .
Preventive Maintenance
Get preventive maintenance out of the way sooner rather than later . That way , your team is not having to handle maintenance when the club is getting busy , thus placing more stress on their shoulders . All equipment , including BC Spa amenities , should be maintained . Speak with club managers to identify the maintenance pain points they are facing so that any issues that can be easily addressed will be taken care of quickly .
This year has been tough for everyone . As we move forward into 2021 , clubs need to be ready for the new year and all that it entails . A little bit of preparation can pay off in a big way . G
