Available on all smartphones E-Log Recap—by Heather Evans As many of you know, we are currently in the midst of upgrading our fleet to Peoplenet’s BLU.2 units. These units are a huge upgrade on the old LCD units, particularly in regards to the e-log functions. We are currently about halfway through upgrading the fleet. One of the questions commonly asked, especially since the changes in the US HOS is ‘how do I know how many hours I’ll get back in 2 days, 3 days etc, when I’m running on my recap’ Here’s how you can tell, if you have a BLU.2 unit. Unfortunately the LCD units will only tell you how many hours you will get back the next day. If you touch the e-driver log button, then touch the ‘view HOS’ button, you will be taken to the HOS Summary Screen. Along the bottom of the screen are several buttons. Amongst them are 1 day, 7 day, 8 day and 15 day view. If you touch the 1 day view, you will see the graph for today, along with the summary of the hours you have used in all statuses. The key to managing your hours when running on your recap are the 7 day and 8 day views. 8 day view will be used to see what hours you will gain in the US, 7 day for in Canada. If you touch the 8 day view, you will see something like this: If you think of your 8 day view as a conveyor that moves from current day to oldest day, as you add a day on the right, a day falls off on the left. When a day falls off on the left, those hours get put back into your weekly available hours. In our example above when we reach 10/10/13 at 00:00, 10/10/13 will be added to the right hand side of our 8 day view. This means the oldest day (10/02/13) will fall off, and we will add 13 hours and 25 minutes to our available hours (you gain total on duty time back). To continue this, if we wanted to know how many hours we would get back 2 days from now (so the 11th) you would go 2 days in from the left (so 10/03/13). So 2 days from now we’ll gain 13 hrs and 29 minutes. It’s important to note that this only applies when you have worked more than 7 (Canada) or 8(US) days in a row with no reset. If you have had a reset in less than 7 / 8 days, this does not apply. 3
