Since 1952 , the Mt . Soledad National Veterans Memorial has pledged to honor veterans by preserving their legacy . Their mission is emboldened by the freedom that we all enjoy as Americans . Throughout our country ’ s history , the men and women who have served in the military have been the cornerstone of the American way . The Mt . Soledad Memorial Association is honored to operate and maintain one of the most beautiful veteran memorials in the country . With 12 honor walls adorned with black granite plaques prominently displaying the faces and names of over 7,000 veterans , both living and deceased , from all branches of the US Military dating back to the Civil War . These majestic walls form a circular parabola with red brick walkways separating the walls , allowing visitors to enjoy a relaxing stroll and view the honor plaques of our veterans .
