ceremonies every year since its founding in 1952 . These time-honored legacy ceremonies pay tribute and honor the service of courageous men and women who served in the US military , and the ceremonies are always open to the public at no charge . Their Veterans Day Ceremony in November honored the courageous service of the Navajo Code Talkers from WWII , and in December the memorial hosted its inaugural Wreaths Across America Ceremony in conjunction with other Veteran Memorials and our National Cemeteries . In March , the Association once again will honor the service our women veterans and those serving in the military with its annual Women ’ s History Brunch , held on the ceremonial lawn at the memorial .
Wreaths Across America
In 2022 , the memorial received over 250,000 visitors from across the country and abroad . Visitors are warmly greeted by one of the many Volunteer Docents who provide tours and share the history of our veterans and the Memorial . It is not uncommon for the memorial to host military reunions , promotions , commissionings and retirements , as San Diego is home to a very large military and veteran community . Local schools and youth organizations also visit the memorial on occasions such as Flag Day , Veterans Day and Memorial Day , where docents will share the stories of various veterans .
In addition to placing honor plaques on the walls , the Association maintains its commitment of “ Telling The Stories Of Our Veterans ” by conducting Veteran Honor Ceremonies throughout the year . These ceremonies are for families and friends of veterans , as they honor their service by sharing their accomplishments , sacrifices and contributions to the community . Additionally , the memorial hosts private tours and receptions that offer spectacular 360-degree views of San Diego and the Pacific Ocean .
