Taprobane 1.0 Sri Lankan Mars Rover The fact that he is the first Sri Lankan to lead a Mars Rover Team is significant. The team is going to design a rover named “Thaprobane 1.0” which will be contested in the Indian Rover Challenge 2020. This will be a great achievement in the Sri Lankan history of Science and it is our pride to have Kasuntha Madumal leading the entire team as an undergraduate of our faculty. Chathurangi Edussuriya of the Department of Computer Engineering became the top in the world by winning the Construction Industry Solutions Limited (COINS) Grand challenge in the undergraduate category bringing fame to University of Peradeniya. The competition was held on the 12th of June 2019 in Manchester, UK under the two categories; professional and student. She competed under the student category. Six finalists were invited to the UK from each category with the shortlisted ideas ranging from carbon negative building materials to autonomous land surveying marking drones. Teams from Edinburg, Chicago, St. Carlo, and India participated in this competition while Chathurangi conquered the first place after competing with participants from across the world. The award ceremony was held at the Imperial War Museum, North Salford Quays in Manchester, UK.
