The Garner Police Department continues to add new officers to meet the expanding service needs of a fast-growing community.
community members to engage in problem-oriented policing. The Patrol Bureau is divided into four squads( A-D), each led by a lieutenant( watch commander), a sergeant, a corporal, and seven patrol officers.
Special Teams
Garner Police Department participates as a member of the Wake Regional SWAT Team( WRST), a regional team comprised of officers from multiple police departments, specially trained and equipped to deal with high-risk situations and high-risk operations. A lieutenant is appointed as the Garner Police Department liaison, and they report directly to the WRST Commander.
A lieutenant leads the Crisis Negotiations Team( CNT), which supports operations involving barricaded, suicidal, or uncooperative individuals.
The K-9 Unit is guided by a K-9 Training Officer, who manages all police K-9s and coordinates training for three additional handlers. The K-9 Unit is trained to detect illegal narcotics, search and rescue operations, and locate evidence. K-9 officers complete hundreds of hours of training with their assigned dogs to become proficient in these tasks.
Support Services Bureau
The Support Services Bureau is led by a captain and encompasses the Community Services Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and police crime analyst.
