GAELIC SPORTS WORLD Issue 36 - October 17, 2015 | Page 9
qualify for the senior grade with the remainder
going into the shield and plate events. The top
teams will automatically go into the championship semis, the next four into the shield semis
and the last two into the plate.
The team to beat here is Belgium as they have
won the last seven championships in a row.
Belgium Ladies this year won the earlier European 15 aside championship and so will again
represent Europe in their forthcoming match
in the Leinster Junior club championship and
so remain very strong. At Round 1 however,
they did not have things all their own way and
were pushed all the way by Galician side Fillas
de Breogán and Irmandinhos. The favourites
will also have to contend with arch rivals Holland with Paris also likely to prove difficult.
Munich who finished in fourth place at Round
1 are South East regional champions this year
winning two out of three events and will also
have to be respected.
SENIOR B MEN’S & INTERMEDIATE
There are 12 teams competing for Senior B
and Intermediate honours. The teams that
are likely to feature at the top end or Senior B
grade should be Luxembourg, the Hague, Jersey and Zurich . These should be the favourites here with very little to
choose between them.
The bottom teams will play in the intermediate grade and
it is difficult to see who will end up here but if hosts Vienna Gaels do they can do well with Berlin, Nordic Gaels,
a Stockholm/Malmo combo and Clemont Gaels all in with
a chance. Padova from Italy have been moved up to the
senior & intermediate grade so they might feature in the
latter as well.
JUNIOR
There are 7 teams in the junior grade with the top teams
competing for the A championship and the bottom sides
for B. The sides here are Lorient Slovak Shamrocks, Geneva, Paris B, a Lazio/Rovigo (both Italian) and Bratislava combination as well as Augsberg and Vienna Vipers.
The latter are a new team from southern Germany and
are an unkown quantity. The sides to watch here are Geneva, Lorient, Paris B and the combo team and the Vienna Vipers.
