Another World Record
Active Shooter Training for
Firefighters
On April 3, 2016, AT&T Stadium played host
to WrestleMania 32, transforming into a
wrestling arena for a production for more
than 100,000 of the world’s most dedicated
WWE fans, breaking WWE record attendance.
The Office of Special Events had been
planning for this for over a year. In total, the
planning efforts were commended after the
event, having handled 84 total EMS calls, 88
first aid
room
contacts,
2 fire
calls, and
10
transports
to the
hospital.
An active shooter
event involves one or
more suspects
engaged in an
ongoing, random, or
systematic shooting
spree with the intent to
harm or kill others.
This year, Arlington Fire and Police
Departments partnered for policy
development and
response training.
Fire and Police
teams participated
in a joint agency
training exercise at
the end of FY 2016.
New Fire Engine Purchased
New Gas Well Training Prop
Installed at Fire Training
In February 2016, City Council approved the
purchase of a new fire engine. The new unit
replaced an existing front-line fire apparatus
that had reached the end of its useful service
life. The new apparatus meets EPA emission
reduction standards. In an effort to explore
new procurement options and seek greater
cost-savings related to fire apparatus,
management opted to perform a detailed
comparison of
available
equipment,
options, and
customizations
available
through
various
cooperatives to ensure that the City is getting
the best price and quality.

Chesapeake Energy offered to provide the
Arlington Fire Department with a Natural Gas
Separator at no cost to the City of Arlington.
The separator consists of a closed tank that
separates the gas from liquids and solids by
the force of gravity. This equipment is a
valuable training prop for our Gas Well and
Hazardous Materials Response Teams. It
allows us to train on equipment that would be
encountered out in the field and to better
prepare for a
gas well
emergency
or similar
hazardous
materials
incidents.
