Highlights EOD Team Aids Secret Service in Sweep of Air Force One Arlington Fire Department’s EOD Team was asked to support the Dallas Police Department by providing EOD Canine, and other EOD associated services, with the protection of the President of the United States, as he attended the memorial of the fallen Dallas Police Department and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) officers. The EOD team was responsible for securing of the Love Field area where Air Force One and Marine One were located, as well as other areas the President visited while in Dallas. We were proud to support the DPD during a very difficult time for Dallas. Arlington Fire Participates in the Big X Regional Training Exercise Big X is a regional training exercise sponsored by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) on behalf of its 240 regional govern ment members, including cities, counties, independent school districts, and special districts. The large scale event occurred at more than 40 different venues throughout the region with the goal of helping first responders, emergency managers, public health personnel, hospitals, and volunteer organizations, better prepare for, respond to, and recover from the effects of multiple natural disasters and other emergencies occurring simultaneously. The Planning Team designed dynamic and realistic exercise scenarios to provide a unique opportunity to evaluate a variety of response capabilities including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Hazardous Materials (HazMat), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) participants. Arlington Fire Department teams performed exceptionally throughout the three day event and were recognized by the region for their leadership, teamwork, practices, abilities, and equipment.
