FY 2015 Accomplishments

Digital Radio System Completion
In 2014, the Department began the installation of a $ 10.8 million dollar digital radio system to support seamless radio interoperability with our North Texas public safety partners.
In FY 2015, the installation of the new transmission equipment was completed. Both Fire and Police Departments are now equipped with state-of-the-art digital mobile and portable radios technology. Encryption is a key feature of the new digital system. Arlington’ s new public safety radio system has been activated and is now integrated with other public safety agencies served by the Tarrant County 911 District.
Fire Recruit Classes-BTS 25, 26
AFD’ s Basic Training School( BTS) Class 25 was completed in January 2015, with the assignment of 12 new firefighters to fire stations. In August 2015, BTS Class 26 was completed with the assignment of 9 new firefighters to fire stations. Upon completion of BTS, these recruits are certified as Paramedics or EMT- Intermediates and statecertified Texas Firefighters.
Station # 5 Construction
The new Fire Station # 5 will be approximately 10,000 square feet and will include three drivethrough apparatus bays to accommodate a pumper engine and a brush truck. It will house the crew of Engine # 5 and the staff of the Office of Special Events( OSE). The facility design includes expansion capability for up to
six more firefighters. Construction will be completed in early 2016, with a dedication ceremony planned for April 2016.
MSA SCBA Implementation
In May 2015, the Department completed inservice training for the new state-of-the-art MSA G1 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. Training was followed by change out of SCBAs for all
department apparatus in June 2015. As a result, all personnel are equipped with a 45- minute air cylinder versus the old standard of 30 minutes.
