FY 2015 Accomplishments AISD Career and Technical CenterAISD Fire Academy Emergency Operations Training for City Departments In FY 2015, the Arlington Fire Department provided input on the design and planning phase of the AISD Fire Academy Classroom and Training Field at the new AISD Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC). The facility will include 4,500 square feet of classroom space, an apparatus bay, outside training area, and training tower. The new AISD school will be located on Browning Drive at the current Hutcheson Junior High School address. The center is scheduled to open in August 2017. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) provided training to City departments on the purpose, role, and activation of the Emergency Operations Center. Topics included the operational structure of the EOC and detailed purposes of Emergency Management. The training also reinforced the concept that departments are the subject matter experts for their areas of responsibility. AISD Fire Academy Program The AISD Firefighter/EMT Academy, a cooperative effort between the Arlington Fire Department, Arlington Independent School District, and Tarrant County College graduated its third class in June 2015. Quality instruction and coordination by AFD instructors have been the keys to the program’s continued success. Training is based on the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Fire Suppression (TFCFP) curriculum. To date, eight AISD Academy graduates have been offered positions as Arlington Firefighter Trainees, three have been hired by other fire departments, and four are working for ambulance companies. FY15 Positive Budget Outcomes Proactive management efforts to improve budget efficiencies allowed the Fire Department to purchase additional needed priority items: five new Fire-Rescue chainsaws, a new complete set of rescue tools for a truck company, additional fire hose and nozzles, Class A foam, additional Nomex uniforms and t-shirts, wildland firefighting equipment, dive rescue equipment, and a bunker gear extractor for Fire Station 14.
