CITY’ S NEWEST ROUNDABOUT INSTALLED
Arlington’ s newest roundabout was installed at the Greenspring Road and Pleasant Ridge Road intersection as part of the Bowman Springs Rebuild project. The City completed the voter-approved rebuild of Bowman Springs from Interstate 20 to Enchanted Bay Boulevard, funded by the 2014 Bond Program, in January 2024. Other improvements included water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage infrastructure, and pedestrian pathways and street lights.
CITY BEGINS WORK ON DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DRIVE EXTENSION
A new north-sound corridor through south Arlington is in the works. Arlington began steps to start the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive construction project.
The work will extend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive further south, creating a new section of roadway that connects East Bardin Road to Engleside Drive with pavement marking leading to Southeast Green Oaks Boulevard. This roadway currently ends just south of Interstate 20. The bond-funded project is set to be complete by fall 2025.
ARLINGTON COMPLETES VOTER-APPROVED HARRIS ROAD REBUILD
The reconstruction of Harris Road from Calendar Road to South Cooper Street in South Arlington was completed in fall 2024. The project, funded in the 2014 Bond Program, transformed the two-lane asphalt roadway to a three-lane concrete roadway to improve traffic congestion. Other improvements included streetlights, pavement markings, storm drainage infrastructure, an intersection realignment and construction of sidewalks and ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps.

• Arlington On-Demand marked a major milestone in March 2024 with 2.5 million trips provided to customers since its launch.
• Residents and visitors could begin renting electric scooters and bicycles to get around Downtown and UTA. The University partnered with VEO to launch the micromobility program in October 2024. VEO also signed a one-year license agreement with the City to operate these vehicles on public rights of way.
• TxDOT’ s I-30 / SH 360 Interchange Project was substantially completed in 2024. This multimillion project has transformed the interchange, which had not been renovated since it opened to traffic in 1957 and was once rated as the worst bottleneck of congestion and connectivity in the Fort Worth District. One of the last steps will be to open the managed lanes through Arlington by summer 2025.
• TxDOT’ s $ 2.1 billion Southeast Connector project, which started in November 2022, continues progress. The project, which will make significant improvements to nearly 14 miles of I-820, I-20 and US 287 in the southeast part of Tarrant County by 2027, represents the largest investment of TxDOT funds on any roadway project in the history of TxDOT’ s Fort Worth District.
