Enhance
REGIONAL MOBILITY
In Arlington, our mobility projects vary in scope but share the common goal of improving resident life and enhancing visitor experiences. In FY 2024, Public Works completed major street and sidewalk projects, along with extensive maintenance to prolong our streets’ lifespan and ensure smoother commutes. Additionally, we’ ve invested in technology to make future travel safer and more efficient, continuing our commitment to enhancing regional mobility.
RANDOL MILL RESURFACED BETWEEN COOPER AND COLLINS STREETS
The City of Arlington completed a $ 1.7 million mill and overlay project to improve the aging section of Randol Mill Road between Cooper and Collins streets for drivers in June.
The project was among $ 28.7 million allocated for street maintenance improvement projects throughout the city in FY 2024. Arlington will move forward with voter-approved plans to rebuild and widen this section of Randol Mill Road, which is currently a four-lane asphalt road, to a six-lane concrete road as proposed in the City’ s thoroughfare development plan at a later date.
CITY ADOPTS SAFE STREETS ARLINGTON ACTION PLAN
The Safe Streets Arlington Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, adopted in 2024, outlines 44 proposed actions over the short-term and long-term to make Arlington safer for all roadway users. Arlington covers nearly 100 square miles, but 70 % of all fatal and severe crashes happen on just 6 % of the roadway network. Fatal and severe crashes involving cyclists and pedestrians are even more concentrated, with half occurring on just 1.5 % of the City’ s roads. This does not include state-controlled intersections or highways and interstates in the city.
Arlington worked with residents to develop a transportation safety action plan that aims to reduce deaths and serious injuries on city streets by 5 % annually. Through a data-driven and comprehensive approach, the plan’ s ultimate goal is to achieve zero deaths and serious injuries by 2050.
ARLINGTON RAPID PROVIDES NEARLY 40,000 TRIPS

Arlington RAPID’ s fleet of four vehicles, which includes one that features a wheelchair ramp and securement system for wheelchairs, operates from 8 a. m. to 8 p. m. Monday through Friday.
