Arlington Recognized Again Nationally for Exceptional Use of Data
The City of Arlington was once again awarded the Bloomberg Philanthropies What Works Cities Certification at the Gold level for exceptional use of data to inform policy decisions , allocate funding , improve services , evaluate program effectiveness and engage residents . What Works Cities Certification , which had only been awarded to 62 cities worldwide from 2017 to 2023 , sets the standard of excellence for data-informed , well-managed local government . Arlington first achieved Gold certification in 2020 , following Silver certification in 2019 .
New Traffic Signal Technology System Helps Reduce Harmful Greenhouse Gases
The City of Arlington announced a new traffic signal technology system in 2023 to help reduce harmful greenhouse gases . The Freight Optimization Services Program reduces stops and delays imposed to heavy freight vehicles and will be deployed on roadways designated as freight routes and in freight-oriented development areas . The program helps improve road safety , improved quality of life and environmental consciousness .

• The City of Arlington ’ s Finance , Human Resources and Information Technology departments successfully launched the Workday platform for Human Capital Management and Payroll .
• Arlington celebrated Open Data Day 2023 with new additions to the Open Arlington data portal , including publication of a Data Services Standard , which builds on the existing Open Data Policy and ensures all City data is transparent , and three web maps about the Bankhead Highway , Arlington ’ s fallen World War II veterans and The Hill , the City ’ s historic African American community .
Use Technology to Learn About City ’ s Early Pioneers at Arlington Heritage Memorial Grounds
• The Arlington Police Department was recognized by the U . S . Conference of Mayors and Target for this year ’ s Police Reform and Equitable Justice Grant Program . The GameUP 5-0 Program aims to strengthen relationships with kids through video games .
Learn about the early pioneers who settled our community at the Arlington Heritage Memorial Grounds . Visitors are invited to scan QR codes on placards amongst the gravestones to learn more about the city ’ s history and the people who called Tarrant County home more than 100 years ago .
The interactive historical markers were unveiled in May 2023 . Leaders from the Arlington Historical Society , the City of Arlington and Tarrant County have worked together since 2017 to restore this location to its important place in history .
