FWYC Letter Log March 2014 | Page 4

Page 4 In Port Greetings to everyone, and welcome to March! As this year’s very cold winter starts to give way to spring (I hope!), we are beginning to prepare the Club for the activities and events coming up in the spring and summer months. You may notice that the wooden fencing next to the south sail loft, along the walkway outside the Junior Room, and in other places, has been treated with a protective stain; our maintenance man, David, took care of that. By the time you read this, the dry storage area and other parts of the property will have been treated with herbicide in an effort to prevent the brambles and “sticker burrs” that always seem to show up in the summertime. Dry Dockmaster Sam Grant and his bride, Jennifer, are leading the effort to do this, along with generally sprucing up the dry storage area and point. My thanks to them for taking the initiative, and thanks to all who are helping, in big and small ways, to make the property look inviting for all of our members. In Memory of Past Commodore Larry Tate 1920 - 2014 One of the activities we’ll be having in March is our first “Self-help” Day of the year. It’s planned for Saturday, 29 March, starting at 9:00 a.m. We will have some small projects and clean up efforts planned for that day. Whether you feel up to doing a little or a lot, I do hope you’ll come out and participate – we will have some fun and fellowship while making our Club a little bit nicer. Oh, yes – we will have some food and drink ready for participants when the work is done. March is usually a month of transition into the brightness and new life of spring. I like to think that we reflect the fresh and hopeful outlook of spring in our lives as well. I look forward to seeing all of you around the Club as we transition to the hectic activities of the spring and summer. See you there!
