FWYC Letter Log June 2014 | Page 18

Page 18 The FWYC Chapter of the Florida Commodores Association A number of us ventured south to the Sarasota Yacht Club for the Spring FCA meeting. The SYC Sundown Ceremony was an event “not to be missed”...The Sarasota Military Academy Drum Corps gave an absolutely stunning performance followed by the ceremony which was carried out by the Sarasota Military Academy Honor Guard. At our meeting, some slight changes were made to the voting bylaws in order to make them clearer and a sweater was added to the official uniform. This sweater looks really good and will be great for cool evenings in the fall. We also enjoyed a very interesting talk by Sarasota Bay Watch (www.sarasotabaywatch.org). They have been working for several years trying to restore scallops to Sarasota Bay. This is an activity similar to what we have been doing to restore oysters in the Choctawhatchee Bay. One of the things that FCA has done in the past and continues to do every year is contribute something of need or value to our Club. This year our contribution will be new entry lights on the columns next to the new gate. When the new gate is finally installed, take a minute to observe the lights. In keeping with our “do you know this ” feature... do you know what this is (what was it originally called??) The FCA will buy a drink for the first person that emails me the correct answer.
