WOW, WHAT A MONTH of hard work by the entire staff at Fort Walton Yacht Club. We have
successfully hosted many outside guests at the club all month long. These include: NWFSC
Institute of Senior Professionals; the 359th Squadron at Eglin AFB; Merrill Lynch, Army Navy
game; Military Officers Association Military Ball; Emerald Coast Sailing Association; Geneal-
ogy Society luncheon; Okaloosa Republican Party and Chamber of Commerce officials. We
still have West Marine’s and SOFPREP’s holiday party, First City Bank employee Christmas
luncheon and the Commodores Ball. We continue to serve the Sunshine Boy’s Wednesday
morning breakfast group and it continues to grow and we are hosting several bridge groups
each week. Outside groups we have catered for this month include Beach Liquors and the
Emerald Coast Cancer Center.
In addition to hosting Rotary and the Military Officers Association, we are in talks with Ki-
wanis, the Sons of Italy and have reached an agreement with the Chamber of Commerce to
host their Military Affairs Committee monthly for the entire year. They will meet on the 3rd
Monday of each month.
Mike Shackleford should have the project to stop beach erosion of the road on the point
completed this month and has the club in general looking great. We sure were lucky to find
him as he is talented at fixing everything that has broken, and we have not had to hire any
outside help this month for repairs.
We continue to get compliments on the new lounge employees as they strive to make the
lounge warm and inviting, a place that you are always met with a smile and an offer to try
something new. Danielle Windsor continues to come up with great drink specials and the
Bloody Mary bar during Sunday Brunch continues to grow.
Kristen Hartman has reconciled all the bank statements and developed a format to present
the banking information to the Board of Directors that is clear, concise and easy to under-
stand. It also ties directly back to the funding requirements established by the Board. She
now presents the balance sheet with a twelve-month, side by side look at the numbers so
that it is clear where the money comes from and how it is spent.
Most importantly, we have improved the bottom line at
the club and are now generating enough money to chip
away at the unfunded balances in the Dock, Trust, Capi-
tal Improvement and GYA Boat Funds and all the accru-
al accounts.
The staff looks forward to working with the new Flag
Officers and Board of Directors and would like to thank
Commodore Faye Black and her team for the outstand-
ing achievements accomplished in 2018.
