High School sailors have been practicing in the 420
sailboat and recently sailed in the Okaloosa County
High School Sailing Championship Regatta held at FWYC on 9 November.
Fort Walton Beach High School was the winning team for the championship.
The regatta was sailed in ideal conditions with flat water and winds decreasing
from 15 kts to 5 knots during the day. Eight races were sailed with the Fort
Walton Beach, Choctawhatchee and Niceville High School teams competing.
The 420s were furnished by Fort Walton Yacht Club and the Emerald Coast
Sailing Association. In “A” division, Fort Walton Beach was first and
Niceville was second. In “B” division Niceville was first and
Choctawhatchee was second. Fort Walton Beach High School won
the overall regatta. The “B” division competition was very tight with
just one point between each team.
