GYA News and
Reviews
While there is only one race left on the GYA 2013
Schedule, it's actually the first race of the 2014
Capdevielle Series. Race of Champions will be hosted
by Southern Yacht Club on 14 - 15 December. We ARE
planning on sending a team, with the ultimate goal of
having 100% participation for the 2014 year. This
endeavor does require a lot of sailors to successfully
accomplish, so if you have EVER thought about racing
more in one-design, let me know and we will get you
included in a practice and a regatta (or several!). As the
2014 Fleet Captain, I am committed to overhauling our
older Scots in order to make adult sailing easier and to
start introducing match and team racing at a club level.
So, if you aren't necessarily interested in SAILING but
would like to support the Flying Scot program
financially, we are also accepting donations. :)
The GYA Leadership is also gearing up for the Winter
Meeting hosted by Gulfport Yacht Club on 10 -12
January. If you're interested in being more involved in
the Gulf Yachting Association on an organizational
level, PLEASE contact me. It's an amazing organization
and we are always looking for fresh insight and ideas.
I will have a "State of the GYA" article in the February
Letter Log.

As I have mentioned in past articles, the Gulf Yachting
Association becomes a family of friends. I am very sad
to report the passing of Walter Chamberlain (BWYC).
Walter was a GYA Past Commodore and current GYA
Parliamentarian. His infamous 'five-minute rule' to keep
GYA meetings in order was only ever broken by him.
He will be sincerely missed. Please keep Bay Waveland
Yacht Club in your thoughts.
Thanks again for reading this year, and I think the whole
team is looking forward to 2014.
Warm Regards,
