The crackdown on PSVs by
the KFCB follows numerous
complaints from the public
who expressed displeasure
at the obscene content
exhibited in the public
transport sector. Those who
want to screen or exhibit
content, are expected to
have an exhibitor’s licence
and the content must be
rated by KFCB.
The Kenya Film Classification
Board (KFCB) has embarked on a
countrywide crackdown on public
service vehicles screening obscene
films. CEO Ezekiel Mutua expressed
concern PSV vehicles are displaying
content laced with pornographic
“Our campaign against
screening of pornographic content
in public service vehicles goes on
countrywide. We ask for the support
of all Kenyans to restore sanity
in this important sector. We will
dismantle the screens and music

systems found in public service
vehicles and charge the culprits for
exhibiting unrated videos,” noted
Mutua.
The appropriate rating for public
exhibition in PSVs is General
Exhibition (GE) and the content
must be suitable for family viewing
or listening. Content with obscene,
pornographic, horror, hate speech,
incitement or occultism should not
be displayed.
The police have been asked to
arrest drivers violating the law,
have their vehicles impounded and
arraign the culprits in court. The
Board is committed to bringing
back sanity to the public service
transport sector.
