Congratulations to St . Catherine Church Winner of the Grand Sweep Stakes Award !
St . Catherine Church ’ s float was a representation of the 2014 parade theme , “ Destination America .” With their suitcases and trunks packed our families came from all parts of the world to be part of this land we call America . The Statue of Liberty , as the New Collossus , speaks to the immigrants , “ Give me your tired , your poor , your huddled masses yearning to breath free .” St . Catherine ’ s choir , singing “ America ,” was dressed in various ethnic garbs to represent some of the many lands our families came from seeking freedom .

The Indian Association of South County named their entry “ From Motherland to Homeland .” Their float highlighted the generations of Indians that made “ Destination America ” their goal while still maintaining their cultural roots and colorful traditions . In the 1900s they came as farmers wanting to provide for a better life for their families , in the ‘ 70s they came to the US for educational opportunities . The influx of entrepreneurs followed in the ‘ 80s . The ‘ 90s , highlighted the era of high tech . Their children represent the newest generation of Americans and who broadening their goals and dreams in areas of public service , humanities and liberal arts .
