Girls ’ Sport update
On Friday 8 September our 2018 Year 11 girls attended a sports planning meeting at the school . The meeting provided the students with the opportunity to meet each other informally and work together to identify the range of sports they would like to target for next year .
In a rapidly changing women ’ s sport landscape , the range and variety of sports on offer is increasing significantly and it was exciting to hear the students wanting to try sports they have not yet been exposed to alongside the more traditional sports .
From the list of more than 17 sports options the cohort have selected the following sports for 2018 : tennis , aquatics , water polo , athletics , beach volleyball , basketball , hockey , rowing , cross country , equestrian and 7 ’ s rugby . The cohort will also compete in triathlons as individuals or in teams and in the All Schools Cross Country .
For the students who are at representative level in their various sports , the afternoon also provided an opportunity to learn more about the Strength and Conditioning programs on offer in the school .
The Year 7 and 8 students have recently completed their sport selections and from the 17 sports on offer have selected for 2018 : T20 cricket , tennis , aquatics , equestrian , athletics , hockey , netball , cross country , soccer and basketball . The cohort will also compete in triathlons as individuals or in teams and in the All Schools Cross Country .
We are excited to see the inclusion of some of the fastest growing sports for women amongst the more traditional codes .

Golf program update
The School ’ s golf program is moving forward , with continued interest in the Tuesday afternoon golf tuition offered to the Preparatory School students . This has steadily grown this year with over 30 students now learning to play golf .
Our Senior School golf team was again successful in the PSA Golf Championships , winning this year ’ s competition . Our history in this competition is remarkable , winning five times , coming second three times and third twice , since we started competition in 2006 .
The senior teams recently competed in the 2017 WA Secondary School Golf Championship , a handicap net score event with 132 players competing from 43 secondary schools . The competition was played at Mt Lawley Golf Club on a wet and very windy day . The Guildford Grammar School team did very well , with
Sam Operchal ( 11Ha ) scoring 34 points and Liam McEvoy ( 11St ) and Connor Smith ( 11Ha ) scoring 32 each . The event was won by Como Secondary College with Guildford Grammar School finishing a credible 14 out of 42 teams .
A recent highlight was the visit from students and teachers from the Beijing Huijia School to a Friday afternoon golf training session . The students from Beijing were :

Some parents and students may recognise the school name as we have in the past sent students on exchange to this school and the Beijing Huijia School students have visited
Guildford Grammar School on numerous occasions .
What is the future in Golf at Guildford ? We will continue to build our golf program and coach and train our junior golfers up to the standard required to successfully compete in the golf tournaments .
We will continue to encourage students to play golf at local courses during the holidays so that they can compete with each other in tournament conditions . Parents are also encouraged to join some of our classes and training sessions .
A large artificial golf green on the flats is still a goal for our program . A set of driving nets is also proposed for this area .
