Alumni – Senior Breakfast 2016
Forty-six Prep alumni from the Classes of 1953 – 2012 served as table hosts at the 2016 Alumni – Senior Breakfast in The Garden Terrace Room at The New York Botanical Garden. These alumni welcomed the Class of 2016 to the ranks of alumni. Thanks to Chris Jennings and Vijay DaCosta, the Class of 2004 was well-represented!
Breakfast speaker Vijay DaCosta’ 04, a member of the campus ministry and religious studies departments at St. John’ s Prep, in Danvers, MA, told the graduates they should expect life turns that will cause their current plans to change. But that their faith and what they learned at the Prep will play a part in helping them find another, better path. Vijay closed his talk by encouraging the Class of 2016 to keep in touch with each other but also with the Prep.
Mass at St. Patrick’ s Old Cathedral
On September 17, the Fordham Prep community celebrated a special Mass in honor of our 175th Anniversary at St. Patrick ' s Old Cathedral- the same basilica where our Founder, John J. Hughes, was consecrated as the first Archbishop of New York.
Each year, the table host list contains the name, graduation year, college attended and employer information. This year, one member of the Class of 2016 was very interested in summer employment with one particular alumnus who owns his own business. Within an hour after the breakfast, the alumnus and the 2016 graduate were emailing about possible employment!
Thank you to the alumni who took the time to join us for this special annual event.
Our next Alumni-Senior Breakfast is on April 26. If you are interested in attending, please contact Development Associate Ryan Fink at finkr @ fordhamprep. org.
In the Eucharist, Rev. Thomas Scirghi, SJ, Rector of the Fordham Jesuit community, preached a moving Homily about the values of Jesuit education. The Prep ' s student choir performed a new hymn, commissioned to honor this special anniversary.
We gave thanks for Archbishop Hughes, our faculty and school leaders who have formed and shaped Fordham Prep for 175 years, and our benefactors, whose generous support has propelled the Prep to excellence.
Following the Mass, attendees enjoyed a reception and brunch at India House and viewed the premiere of a Liam Neeson-narrated short film about our 175th anniversary.
Fordham Prep President, Rev. Christopher Devron, SJ, spoke of the tremendous generosity of parents, alumni and friends. In the early stages of the 175th Anniversary Campaign, lead donors have already committed nearly $ 25 million.
