My name is Rik Sieben and i had the honour to be interviewd bij Jeff. I’ve met Jeff online and after a while he asked me for an interview for his magazine. I dont know wher to start, so i will introduce myself a bit.
As i said before, my name is Rik Sieben i live in the Netherlands have a son and daughter
and my passion is floattube fishing. I was 2 times Dutch champion (2016 and 2017) and
winner with my teammate Jeroen Vloon (Dutch Champion 2019) of the Dutch Lakemaster Tournament.
Question: Why did you start float tubing?
Answer: Why did i start float tubing, a good question ;). When i was young i used to fish for carp (thats in Europe a real sport) but that kind of fising takes a lot of time. Finding the right spot, create a feeding place weeks in advance, and then hope there is no one else sitting at your spot. It was a lot of work and took a lot of time and relations haha. In that time i was also in the military as an air assault ranger in the Army so did not had much time for al of this. When I wasnt on a tour (Kosovo, Iraq) or excercise i did not want to spend a lot of time with preparation for fishing, so i started to fish for predators. Just a rod and a bag full of lures and no preparation time. In the Netherlands we have so much water. (We live ofcourse under the water level and are famous for our dikes, bikes and marihuana. ) So when i got on my bike i was at a fishing spot in 5 minutes. Only i also wanna to fish on big lakes so i bought a boat on a whim. That was one of the most stupidity things that i did. I worked overseas as a Pmsc and was never at home and the boat only costed me money. When i was young i had a floattube, but never thought about that anymore. Than i found a second hand floattube and thought this is the ideal way to fish for predators but also to fish on the best spots on big lakes and no preparation, just throw it in the car and fish. Our main fish is the Snoek (Nothern Pike, looks like muskey), Zander/Snoekbaars (Walley) and the Perch. The upcoming sportfish is the cathfish.
