Women In Fleet Management : Zoe Murray on Breaking Barriers and Embracing Opportunities

WORDS BY ANBY ALCOMENDAS

Zoe Murray ’ s journey into the fleet industry might surprise some , but it shows just how much the field has to offer . What started as a desire to explore something new in her career turned into an exciting and rewarding path . She recently talked to AfMA about her experience as a woman in the fleet industry as well as her discoveries in this ever-evolving space .

A Busy and Varied Role
Zoe is currently the Fleet Support Officer for Elders , and her role is nothing short of diverse . Her day-to-day work involves everything from managing data and insurance to activating and terminating fleets . A part of her job is handling warranty claims and onboarding new fleets , especially when her company acquires and integrates new businesses .
But the responsibilities don ’ t stop there , Zoe also works closely with diverse stakeholders across Australia including very closely with their FMO .
“ We ’ re not just based in South Australia ,” she shared . “ We ’ re across the whole country . So , it ’ s dealing with all the different transport authorities , all the different branches and the corporate side of the business as well .”
“ It ’ s predominantly the managing of the day-today administration side of things and making sure that you know when there are any changes- -because as you can imagine , with hundreds of branches over the country--there ’ s a lot of stakeholders to manage and a lot of movement between fleets ,” Zoe explained .
“ So , we ’ re having to try and ensure that all the records are correct and up to date and the right employees are matched to the right vehicle . And if there ’ s any changes , making all those necessary changes .” she added .
Despite the challenges , Zoe enjoys her role . “ It ’ s a very busy role , but it ’ s great ,”
Transitioning to Fleet Management
Zoe is relatively new to the fleet industry , having started her current role in January 2024 . However , she ’ s already learned a lot in this short time . Before entering the fleet sector , Zoe had a career in real estate .
“ I was a salesperson in my own right but I was predominately responsible for managing the whole administration side of things from listing to settlement ,” Zoe recalled .
